Philomena Gibbons
Board Member, RPA-EuropePhilomena Gibbons is the Deputy Director of Culture and Society at the Wellcome Trust, where she has served for nearly thirty years. The Wellome Trust, one of the largest independent foundations in the UK, supports researchers, campaigns for better science, and tackles the world’s largest health challenges.
Philomena Gibbons leads work across Wellcome to manage the completion and transition of work not continuing under Wellcome’s new strategy. Previous roles have included Interim Director of Culture and Society and Head of Operations of Culture and Society, covering our work in Wellcome Collection, humanities and social science research, public engagement, education and learning, international cultural initiatives and open research.
Phil is a Trustee of a number of charities, including Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors Europe and OKRE, a recent spin-out from Wellcome. She is also a Director and Chair of Wellcome Trust Trading Ltd.
Before joining Wellcome, Phil was a modern languages teacher and an arts administrator, having gained a BA in French and Spanish and PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages.
