Art for Justice and Ben and Jerrys

On June 25, 2019, RPA Project The Art for Justice Fund proudly unveiled its collaborative project with Ben and Jerry’s – an art exhibition at their Waterbury, Vermont factory, centered on mass incarceration and made up of the work of formerly incarcerated artists. The exhibit highlights the Fund’s efforts to change the narrative around incarceration through art, and Ben and Jerry’s long-time commitment to social justice and creating a more equitable society. Joined at the kickoff event by Ben and Jerry’s Matthew McCarthy (CEO) and Jerry Greenfield (Co-Founder) was Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan, artist Mary Baxter, and Terrence Bogans representing the Art for Justice Fund.

The exhibit allows factory visitors to bear witness to the personal trauma and impact incarceration places on individuals and their families, and engage in difficult conversations about the country’s urgent need to reform our criminal justice system over fresh, delicious ice cream. The exhibit will remain on display throughout the year at the Waterbury factory — Vermont’s largest tourist attraction, bringing in around 350,000 visitors per year.
