How to Take Action in Support of Migrant Children and Families
June 22, 2018In times of crisis, philanthropy can play a role in providing crucial resources to those in need. If you are driven to take action in support of migrant children and their families currently affected by the United States’ border policies, we recommend contacting the following organizations, each focused on providing humanitarian or legal aid to migrants and refugees.
- The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is the United States’ leading nationwide policy and advocacy organization focused on expanding rights for marginalized populations including immigrants and refugees.
- The Florence Project provides free legal and social services to detained adults and unaccompanied children in immigration custody in Arizona.
- Hispanics in Philanthropy is collecting donations to provide long-term support, including mental health services, to immigrant children and their families who have been detained at the border.
- The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) advocates for the rights of immigrant children through policy work, trainings, and case-specific assistance.
- The Immigration Justice Campaign is a network of lawyers and allies who provide pro bono services to detained immigrants.
- The National Immigrant Justice Center connects immigrants and refugees with pro-bono direct legal services and advocates.
- The New York Immigrant Coalition is maintaining a list with opportunities for action (i.e. rallies, petitions, etc.) in New York State and beyond.
- The Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) provides free and low-cost legal services to immigrant children, families and refugees in Central and South Texas.
- Southern Border Communities Coalition is a collaborative made up of more than 60 organizations focused on community building to improve the quality of life along the southern border.
- Stand With Immigrants provides educational resources and advocacy opportunities to volunteers across the US.
