Fundación Amparo

In early 2012, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors was engaged by Fundación Amparo, a Mexican family foundation.

Since its founding in 1979, the Fundación has supported fine arts and Mexican culture, educational opportunities at the primary through university level, community development and support and the strengthening of nonprofit organizations. It operates the Museo Amparo, which has one of the best private collections of pre-Columbian art in Mexico, and is currently expanding its modern and contemporary Mexican art collections. In its early days, the Fundación was also known for its important support of several major archaeological excavations around Mexico, including the excavation of the Templo Major, an important Aztec temple discovered by workers in the late 1970s in the heart of Mexico City.

The family’s third generation—who had been involved with the family’s giving since childhood—was now assuming leadership of the foundation, and wished to consider new approaches to governance and management structure. Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors helped the Fundación create internal board policies and a spending and investment plan that will help to promote sustainable growth of its programs.
