Grant Award Lists
In 2006, the New York State Music Fund awarded $32 million to 371 music projects throughout the state. An Advisory Panel comprised of recognized leaders from a cross-section of the music world evaluated and recommended the applications based on criteria focusing on artistic merit and community impact. Special emphasis was placed on reaching underserved populations and broadening awareness of artists, genres or styles with limited access to commercial broadcast or other mass distribution vehicles. The awarded grants represent every region of New York State and range from $10,000 to $750,000, with a median of $65,000. Diverse forms of popular or experimental music, including indie rock, salsa, electronic, fusion and reggae account for almost 36 percent of grants and 15 percent celebrate a spectrum of jazz; nearly 28 percent include new classical music. The state’s ethnic or racial minority communities are served by nearly a third of all programs, while 28 percent specifically target rural communities.

The 92nd Street Y (New York) $85,000
For the Music Education Program comprised of the Musical Introduction Series and the Schools Partnership Program, serving New York City public elementary school children in Queens, Harlem, the Bronx and Manhattan with little or no access to arts education.

To support the Music Program which provides free instruction in music performance and production to low-income, at-risk young people in New York City and is comprised of instruction in piano, percussion, guitar, and turntables, music composition using MIDI technology, music production, and performance and broadcasting through the Door Band, online podcasts, and internet radio.
